Abstract

This study aims to examine and reconstruct the approach of tafsir ilmi (scientific exegesis) in Bambang Pranggono’s book Scientific Miracles in the Qur’an through the perspective of integrative tafsir methodology. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research and is descriptive-analytical in nature. The data are derived from primary sources, namely Pranggono’s work, and supported by relevant literature on scientific exegesis, tafsir methodology, and the relationship between the Qur’an and science. The findings indicate that the approach used in the book tends to emphasize the aspects of scientific miraculousness (al-i‘jaz) and explanatory function of verses through science (al-tabyin). However, it still contains several methodological limitations, such as a tendency toward justificative interpretation, insufficient linguistic (bayani) analysis, and the absence of a systematic synthesis. Therefore, this study proposes a reconstruction of tafsir ilmi through an integrative approach that harmonizes revelation, reason, and science. Within this framework, the Qur’an is positioned as the primary source of truth, while science functions as an empirical tool to understand natural phenomena. Consequently, scientific exegesis is no longer seen as merely an attempt to justify scientific theories, but rather as a constructive dialogue between revelation and scientific knowledge. This approach is expected to produce a more comprehensive, contextual, and relevant understanding of the Qur’an in response to contemporary developments.
